Dr. Thomas Roach earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, where he attended on a full scholarship. He went on to receive his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Marian University in 2018. Dr. Roach completed his residency at the University of Toledo in 2022, subsequently joining as full-time faculty for two years. During his tenure, he served as the Director of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, the Director of the Electroconvulsive Therapy Program, the Associate Program Director for the Adult Residency Program, and the Associate Clerkship Director.

Dr. Roach is passionate about teaching, psychodynamic therapy, and providing comprehensive psychiatric care. His clinical interests include treatment-refractory depression, anxiety disorders, unipolar and bipolar depression, ADHD, and schizophrenia.

Dr. Roach believes that for many patients, medications alone may not be enough to truly help each patient succeed and provides patients with both medications and therapy to empower patients to feel better with their lives and relationships. In recognition of his excellence in psychotherapy, he was awarded the Austen Riggs Award in psychotherapy in 2021.

Dr. Roach is committed to understanding each patient as a unique individual, considering their social determinants, childhood experiences, and specific needs to optimize their mental health. He believes that there is extraordinary therapeutic value in listening to the journeys of his patients and accepting them unconditionally. It helps him learn about his patients, cultivate a strong therapeutic alliance, and deliver superior care.
