Shelby has a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Science, from The Ohio State University. She is a licensed educator with over a decade of experience working in a variety of settings. One of Shelby’s primary goals is to help couples enhance the quality of their friendship, as she feels it is a vital foundation for a healthy relationship. She aims to teach couples more effective communication skills with an emphasis on shared understanding. It is her hope that through research-based psychoeducation, couples will deepen their intimacy, feel more connected to one another, and hold positive perspectives about each other and their relationship.
Shelby is a wife, mom to two young children, and has been an early childhood teacher and administrator. As such, she feels her perspective will be particularly helpful to other couples who have young children, but she enjoys working with couples from a wide variety of backgrounds. Shelby was deeply engaged in continuing education around diversity, equity, and inclusion work, including participating in the Multicultural Teaching Institute and the National SEED Project. She feels that these experiences enhance her practice as a Relationship Specialist, including her work with LGBTQIA+ couples. Shelby utilizes her Gottman Level 1 training along with other modalities including Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and attachment theory. She is passionate about helping couples to grow, learn, and thrive together.
