Sonya's client's describe her as hopeful, accepting, and genuine.

Sonya's therapeutic style is compassionate, person centered, psychodynamic and solution focused in nature.

Before becoming a therapist, Sonya worked as a registered nurse for more than 20 years in a hospital, working with older adults in the community, and providing case management to medically complex adults. Later in life, due to her interest in mental health, she returned to the University of Toledo to obtain a Master’s Degree in Counseling. Sonya believes that despite current or past challenges, we can create the life we want to have through healing, growth and working towards holistic wellness. As a counseling intern, Sonya worked in community mental health, then at a local employee assistance program where she obtained experience working with children, adults and couples. Sonya has an eclectic therapy style, tailoring interventions to meet her clients’ needs. She utilizes attachment based psychodynamic therapy, person centered therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solutions Focused Brief Therapy. She also finds skills used in cognitive behavioral therapy and DBT to be helpful for some clients. She has a passion for working with health care workers, as well individuals with challenges such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, chronic illness or health related stressors, relationship conflicts, life transitions, grief, women’s issues (such as pregnancy loss or postpartum depression), and those who have had traumatic experiences.
